About the Role
Build the engine that powers military decision-making at scale.
The Role
At the heart of VANTAGE is a high-performance simulation server running thousands of parallel force-on-force scenarios simultaneously on commodity hardware. You will work on the systems that make this possible — the simulation engine, data pipelines, API architecture, and integration layer that connects VANTAGE to NATO C2 systems, allied simulators, and AI training frameworks.
This is backend engineering at the hard end: real-time performance, complex state management, defence-grade interoperability standards, and a user base where system reliability is not a preference but an operational requirement.
What You Will Work On
• The VANTAGE simulation core — our high-speed, multi-domain physics and statistical engine
• REST and binary API development for simulation control, data export, and AI agent interaction
• Integration with NATO simulation standards: DIS 7, HLA 1516e, SISO-aligned data structures
• Model Context Protocol (MCP) implementation for AI agent-to-simulation communication
• Cloud deployment, containerization (Kubernetes), and Azure GovCloud configuration
• Data pipeline architecture for structured capture and export of simulation outcomes
Requirements
Essential: Strong C# and .NET development skills. Experience building high-performance, concurrent systems. Solid understanding of RESTful API design and distributed architecture.
A strong plus: Experience with simulation, game engine architecture, or real-time systems. Familiarity with NATO simulation standards (DIS, HLA) or defence software. Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud deployment experience.
Who you are: You think carefully about performance and correctness. You enjoy working at the boundary between complex domain logic and engineering constraints. You take pride in systems that other engineers can build on top of reliably.
About the Company
Levato is a Norwegian defence-technology company building VANTAGE — the NATO Alliance's most advanced AI-native digital wargaming and decision-support platform. We are used by armed forces across Norway, Ukraine, the Netherlands, the United States, and beyond. We are growing fast and looking for exceptional engineers who want their work to matter.
